Congress is expected to have a quieter week, as it hosts the XI BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which will include representatives from 31 legislative bodies and approximately 150 legislators from other countries. The IOF issue remains on the government and Congress’s agenda. Lower House President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) has asked the economic team to immediately suspend the application of the Tax on Financial Transactions (IOF) on “risco sacado” (confirmed receivables finance) operations. On Wednesday, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) will hear two extraordinary appeals (RE 1.037.396 and RE 1.057.258) challenging the constitutionality of Article 19 of the Brazilian Internet Bill of Rights, which shields platforms from civil liability for third-party content unless they fail to comply with a court order for removal.
