SURPRISES IN THE ELECTORAL LANDSCAPE AND THE SUPREME COURT UNDER SCRUTINY

The deadline for officeholders to step down from their positions and of the party-switching window accelerated the definition of presidential candidacies for the October election, bringing a new development with the potential to alter the course of a race that, for some, already seemed settled. At the same time, evidence is mounting of conflicts of interest and corruption involving some Supreme Court justices and Daniel Vorcaro, the mastermind behind Banco Master and its offshoots, arrested again a month ago. His plea bargain, under negotiation with the Federal Police and the Attorney General's Office, is causing widespread fear, especially among politicians from various states, and may contaminate the elections. The question remains whether the plea deal will be sealed without Supreme Court justices being included.
