The use of litigation in the presidential campaign is increasing as the race enters its final stretch. The Workers’ Party (PT) has asked Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Flávio Dino to investigate possible U.S. interference in Brazil’s elections aimed at benefiting presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL). Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign also filed a complaint with the TSE early Wednesday seeking to prevent President Lula from using images or excerpts from his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in his reelection campaign. These developments are creating difficulties for the candidates, but the fact remains that they have very little influence on voters’ decisions. Yesterday, polling institute AtlasIntel released presidential voting-intention surveys for São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s three largest electoral constituencies. Both the first- and second-round prompted scenarios show a highly competitive race between President Lula (PT) and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL).
